Reading for Tuesday, January 4th

Hopefully everyone is resting up over the break. I imagine you are just itching to learn some more world history. So before we come back to school please read Strayer 589-598. Happy holidays.

Homework for the week of December 13th

For class on Wednesday please prepare as much as possible for the exam on Friday. We will set aside the whole period for review, but the session will be most effective if you bring specific questions with you. See you then.

Assignments for Friday and Tuesday

For Friday, Dec. 3rd, please compile the list of identification terms for chapter 18 handed out earlier this week. You do not have to submit the ones for chapter 17 that are also on the list. On Friday in class you will spend the entire period writing a Document Based Question essay. The essay will be graded, but all of the information you will need to write it will be in the documents provided, so you don't have to study anything or bring any outside knowledge.

For Tuesday, Dec. 7th, read Strayer 559-571, and have a great weekend!

Reading for Wed. Dec. 1st

Please read Strayer 541-555. We will be discussing the Industrial Revolution in Latin America. In addition, please read the sample DBQ essay handed out during last class and bring a list of the four things you were asked to identify (thesis, POV, grouping & faults). You should also be working on preparing Ids for chapter 18 to turn in Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to let everyone know what a great job I think you're doing in World History Intensive. I know the first quarter was very challenging, and you have all done a great job adjusting to very high expectations. I'm most impressed with your drive and willingness to learn. No homework over the break. Relax and spend some time with family. We'll hit the ground running on November 29th and work real hard until Christmas.

Homework and reading for Thursday, Nov. 18th

Please read Strayer, 534-541 and complete the DBQ essay. Remember that we're trying to simulate test conditions, so please spend exactly one hour writing; no more, no less. On Thursday we will workshop these essays in class. It would be helpful if they all looked the same. Please type, double-space, use Times New Roman 12 pt font, one-inch margins.

Reading for Tuesday, Nov. 16th

Please read Strayer, 527-533. There is no Reilly reading, but we will be working with primary source documents in class on Tuesday in a document based question exercise. See you then...

Reading for Friday, Nov. 12

Please read Strayer, 513-524. We will not have a Reilly reading for Friday, but will discuss the readings on the French, Haitian and Venezuelan Revolutions that we did not get to today. No homework, but catch your breath, we'll hit the ground running next week as we begin the next writing assignment, and also begin some AP exam practice.

Reading for Tuesday, Nov. 9th

For class on Tuesday, please read Strayer, 507-513 and Reilly, 755-764.

Reading for Thursday, Nov. 5

Please read Strayer, 499-507 and Reilly, 741-748. No written homework.

Reading for Nov. 2nd

Please read Strayer 491-495. Other than that, have a great Halloween weekend. Great job on the exam. I know how hard you all studied, and it shows.

Exam Friday - 10/29/10

exam 1 review sheet

Homework - due 10/25

Please read Strayer, 467-477 and Reilly, 649-655. There is no guided reading question this weekend; focus your energy on revising your rough draft. Remember that it is due on Monday. Your essay should be two to three pages long (that means onto the third page, but not onto the fourth) and should be typed, double-spaced, with 1" margins, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, and not include extra spaces between paragraphs. Thank you; that is all.

Homework - due Thursday, Oct. 21st

Please read Strayer, 461-467 and Reilly, 626-636. Answer the following question in a one-paragraph comment:

Why did Christian missionaries have a hard time penetrating China?

Reading for Tuesday, Oct. 19th

Please read Strayer, 449-458 and Reilly, 609-625. That is a lot of reading, so we will not have any other assignments due. However, please be prepared to discuss the readings in depth.

Homework - due Friday, Oct. 15

Please read Strayer, 442-448 and Reilly, 483-492, and answer the following question in one paragraph:

Explain the differences between the sources that describe cities in Asia, Egypt and Mexico. What are the implications of the origin of these sources on the cities they describe?

Reading and paper due Wednesday, Oct. 13

Please read Strayer,433-442 & Reilly, 472-483. Also, remember that the rough draft of the paper is due. Hopefully you have a good sense of the direction you'll take already. But if you get stuck wondering if you're on the right track, take a second look at the first paragraph on Reilly p. 456. Good Luck!

Homework - due Friday, Oct. 8th

Since we will not hold class this Wednesday, please complete the reading due then for Friday (Strayer, 421-429; Reilly, 455-472). In addition, please create a 1-2 page outline of Strayer and be prepared to work with your peers to present a segment of the reading to the class in a lecture format. Bring this assignment to class in a hard copy. You will have a small amount of time to prepare in small groups at the beginning of class.

Homework for Monday, Oct. 4th

We will not have class on Thursday due to the class trip, so we will discuss the following readings on Monday: Strayer, 409-421 and Reilly, 593-602. Also, please submit a revised copy of your intro. paragraph on Monday, preferably typed and double-spaced. See you on the bus...

homework due 9/24

Before class on Friday, please submit a comment to this post. The purpose of this is to make sure that we can all use the technology before I assign a real guided reading question due next Tuesday. You don't have to say anything in particular, you can just write "comment" but be sure that your name is included somewhere. Also, I think it will be helpful for you to become a member of this blog. Please do that by clicking the link labeled "follow" on the right hand side of this page.

***reminder***
There is reading to do every class. Please refer to the course schedule included in your syllabus to find the page numbers. Do this before every class, even if I don't mention reading in the daily postings.
